ISCS II DATA

About ISCS

The scientific case for the environmental crisis and climate change is now clear and undeniable. Policy solutions to deal with it have mostly deal with the application of technology. However, unfortunately, many still do not see from the perspective of humanity, media, and art how the environmental crisis of climate change affects people and their livelihoods.

Many of us also accept the reality of the environmental crisis and climate change with indifference and continue to carry out business as usual without any sense of anxiety, sadness, and shame. We tend to take for granted the danger of environmental damage.  In other words, our attitudes and responses to the environmental crisis and climate change are beyond reason, but wrapped in personal psychology, partisanship and identity politics, impervious to logic and evidence.

We therefore clearly need new ways of communicating about the Anthropocene, new perspectives and modes of persuasion that help people see the urgency of the current situation, while still being able to sow hope and inspire action in the face of the environmental crisis. Because so far, a lot of technological explanations about the urgency of the environmental crisis we face and the solutions to be implemented often lame and hard to accept.

Therefore, we believe that with humanities narratives, through works of art, literature, novels, poetry, drama, digital media can inspire human curiosity about the environment and human spirit to repair the environment from damage. Fundamentally, we believe that laws and policies of society will change, as people’s values change. And art, in all its forms, provides a way for society, regardless of culture or background to accept the climate crises and biodiversity depletion.

Conference Testimonials

This seminar is the right place for academics and related practitioners to share ideas, knowledge of field findings, and other research-based information. This is also a forum to get feedback, build collegiality, and form an academic community that becomes an engine that drives the formation of a constructive academic atmosphere.

Aji Prasetya Wahyu Utama, M.A.

ISCS is an event that I always look forward to. This activity is an opportunity to express scientific freedom in the academic forum for researchers and scientists. I also had the opportunity to meet scientists from many countries directly.

Fitrahayunitisna, S.S., M.Pd.

ISCS International Seminar on Cultural Sciences of Universitas Brawijaya is one of the interesting conferences that discuss cultural issues from a critical perspective. The event is very enthralling because the speakers are definitely extraordinary. Quoting our current generation, the ISCS for me is a great event. It was a good chance for me, and I believe, also for all the other participants, to be involved in this occasion.
